2 arrested in Franklin County now face Indiana murder charges

Kentucky State Police say it was their training in looking beyond a simple traffic stop stop that led them to arrest two people who were later charged with murder.

"We actually had them in jail in Kentucky on charges prior to the Indiana authorities even knowing that they had a homicide," said Trooper Ron Turley of the Kentucky State Police.

Kentucky State Police say they arrested Lacy Bradley and James Griffith back on July 25. They say troopers saw them pull into a BP station in Franklin County in a minivan and motorcycle. They say Griffith approached them asking for directions and they noticed his motorcycle tag was expired. When they began to investigate, they say he gave them a fake Social Security number.

"Little did he know the number he was giving belonged to a person that was actually wanted," said Trooper Turley.

That started the ball rolling and police say they found drugs, cash, and weapons in the van. They say Bradley was the driver and tried to fight them, at one point reaching for her purse where they say she had a gun.

"She did make a statement that if she'd gotten back to that purse, she would have shot the officers in the head," said Trooper Turley.

A few days later, police say a weapon they'd processed from the van popped up as stolen from Marion, Indiana. Police there had just discovered 81-year-old Duwayne Lindsey beaten to death with a hammer in his home. They say a gun reported missing from his house was the same one Griffith and Bradley had. Detectives in Indiana put warrants out on the two for Lindsey's murder.

"We were in the right place at the right time and we were able to apprehend these individuals before they went on another crime spree or before they endangered other people," said Trooper Turley.

Griffith and Bradley are waiting to be extradited back to Indiana on those murder charges.
