US 60 in Franklin Co. open after DUI crash

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - An accident shut down a heavily traveled road in Frankfort and created a traffic mess during Friday morning’s commute.

Around 6:30 Friday morning, police say a woman was driving down Versailles Road when she crashed into a utility pole. The pole split in half, fell to the side of the road and took some power lines down with it.

Once officers arrived on scene they realized the driver, Jasmine McDaniel, wasn’t hurt but she was impaired. The 23-year-old was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence.

A part of Versailles Road between Lions Drive and Sunset was shut down for more than two hours while utility crews worked to replace the pole. Police say the closure had a major impact on traffic.

"You couldn't ask for a worse time for this to happen," says Capt. Rob Warfel, Frankfort Police Department. "This was right at the height of rush hour, pretty much, is when this happened this morning. Trying to reroute people through the neighborhood here, there are several stop signs, so it kind of snarled traffic up a little bit. We've been asking the public to be very patient."

Crews were able to get the road back open right around 9:00 a.m.

McDaniel is also charged with failure to maintain insurance. She's in the Franklin County Regional Jail.
