Children take part in VFW Veterans Day ceremony

Around the Bluegrass, and around the country, may people are paying tribute to those who have served our country on this Veterans Day.

Hundreds of veterans, and other members of the community, gathered in Frankfort Thursday morning to remember the service of military men and women.

"You always remember what could have happened, and what those who are serving now are facing," Vietnam War veteran Carlos Pugh said.

"We thank all those who come out to celebrate with us," Vietnam War veteran Fred Ethington said.

The VFW Veterans Day ceremony honored the sacrifice of veterans from every conflict and every branch of the military.

Children from a nearby preschool performed during the event, and a Frankfort high school student sand the national anthem.

Organizers of the ceremony say it's very important to include young people.

Several high school classes also took part. Organizers say it's critically important to teach students the history of veterans who have served our country.

The ceremony is usually held at the Franklin County Courthouse, but was moved this year due to renovations currently taking place at that building.
