Driver charged with DUI after striking man checking his mail

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A driver is facing his third DUI charge after officials say he crashed into a man checking the mail. Joshua Graves, 30, faces several other charges for Monday's accident in Franklin County.

Around 3:30 Monday afternoon, Franklin County Deputies were called to a two car accident. They found Evan Prewitt, 24, lying on the ground. Officials say Graves was driving over a hill, he hit a car, and after the collision, Graves' car hit Prewitt.

Prewitt was standing near his mailbox when he was hit. He was thrown nearly 90 feet down the road.

"He's as innocent and pure of a victim you can ever have in this type of situation. It's a shame this had to happen," said Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton.

Melton tells WKYT Prewitt is in critical condition. Among the DUI charge, Graves is also charged with two counts of Wanton Endangerment and Possession of an Open Alcohol Container in a Motor Vehicle.

Graves remains in the Franklin County Regional Jail on $20,811 bond.

A family member took the other driver involved in the accident to the hospital to be checked out.
