A woman is in jail, another recovering at a hospital after a fight between neighbors got out of hand.
The fight started at a home on Manley Leestown Road, off Owenton Road in Frankfort. Deputies were called out to help a woman who had been shot. When they got there, they found the person who witnesses say shot her hiding in a field behind the home.
Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton says the scene was still very active, the area very dangerous when his deputies arrived at the home on Manley Leestown Road around 5 p.m. Thursday.
"Any time you go into an active shooting scene you put your life at risk. And our guys do it every day," explains Sheriff Melton.
He says his deputies worked with state police to respond to the shooting. Deputies recovered the gun, and got emergency help for the woman shot.
"The way everything happened, the response time was very very fast, which secured everything quick," says Sheriff Melton.
Melton's deputies found the woman who had been shot just a house away from where they say the shooting happened.
As for the shooter, Sheriff Melton says, "suspect fled over the hill into some woods and hid."
They found her a short time later. Sheriff Melton says the shooter is Mona Maupin. They've charged her with intent to commit murder, assault, wanton endangerment, and tampering with physical evidence.
