Franklin County Sheriff's Office patrols for stranded drivers

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - It would be a bad night if your car broke down during this stretch of freezing cold temperatures, so the Franklin County Sheriff's Office is out looking to help stranded drivers. Their main focus is on the interstate.

"You get stranded on the interstate you could have as much as a five mile walk in between the exits," said Sgt. Alvin Cummins.

County roads will get less attention because there are homes every 20 yards or so, help is only a knock on a door away.

Cummins reminds drivers that the recent cold weather can drain your car battery or cause ice spots on roads. He says it's important to be careful and to make sure you and your car are ready for the weather.

The sheriff's office has a relationship with some local hotels, if someone is without heat and needs a place to stay, a deputy will pick them up and drop them off for the night.

You can call the sheriff's office if you need help getting out of the cold.
