KSP offering free motorcycle safety seminar

Kentucky State Police is offering a free motorcycle safety training seminar. It is happening on Thursday, May 17th from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at KSP Headquarters, located at 919 Versailles Road in Frankfort, Kentucky.

The seminar will be taught by a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) RiderCoach who will use the organization's curriculum for this training seminar. Topics will include proper gear, tips for new and seasoned riders and sharing the road with motorists. The training will be performed in a classroom setting and not require the student to have a bike.

KSP Spokesman Lt. David Jude says the course not only prepares a new rider for the road but is a great refresher class for seasoned riders.

"There's often an obstacle facing new riders," says Jude. "They'd like to buy their first bike or maybe upgrade to a newer, more powerful one, but worry about their ability to handle it safely. Rider education programs are the answer for both beginning and seasoned riders. We advocate attending refresher courses that help riders keep their edge by sharpening their skills."

Jude says that Bruce Young from Frankfort, Kentucky will teach the seminar.

"Bruce brings a wealth of experience from various fields including the Motorcycle Safety Foundation," says Jude. "He is a certified RiderCoach for MSF and is very active in motorcycle safety projects in Kentucky."

Jude also says that this class is not a substitute for the required motorcycle examination course for riders to obtain a Kentucky motorcycle license.

The class is free for the first 100 people who register. You can download a Motorcycle Safety Seminar registration form on-line.
