FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Andrew Chilton is being held on a $40,000 bond at the Franklin County Regional Jail charged with rape, sodomy, and sexual abuse. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office accused him of raping the 12-year-old daughter of a woman he was staying with.
The little girl's mother says she found out by accident.
"Me and my sister was looking while she was playing around with a little Android thing getting on Facebook. We saw all these messages back and forth from my daughter and the guy," she said.
From there, she said she went to authorities.
"We went straight to the hospital and we contacted the police from there," she said.
Deputies arrested 26-year-old Andrew Chilton on charges of rape, sodomy, sexual abuse, and using electronics in induce a minor to engage in a sexual or other prohibited activity.
"When she told us, it killed me. Especially after you give someone a roof over their head, give them a place to stay," the girl's mother said.
Sheriff Pat Melton says vigilance is key when it comes to children and social media.
"The mom was vigilant enough. She found it, saw it, and immediately I mean sprang into action. She did very, very well once she realized it," Melton said.
And the little girl's mother has some advice for other parents who might be in a similar situation.
"Be on there with them because you never know...I didn't even know," she said.
