The man charged in the murder of a 16-year-old boy pleaded not guilty during his arraignment Tuesday morning.
Frankfort Police say Carstagio Fields, 19, shot and killed Jafari Hart, 16, early Monday outside Austin Park Apartments.
Hart's body was found near a dumpster. Police were called after people living in the apartment complex heard gunshots.
Family members who talked to WKYT said Fields and Hart were related.
A judge set Fields' bond at $500,000 after declaring him a danger to others.
A public defender says they may ask for a bond reduction at a later date, but felt the judge's decision today was fair.
"It's a tragedy. Our hearts go out to the family. At least it's some kind of bond. In the case of, we're appointed, our client is indigent. They have no funds so $500,000 might as well be $5 million," says Kristin Gonzalez, an Assistant Public Advocate for Franklin County.
Police have said more arrests are possible. Frankfort Crime Stoppers is still offering up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to additional arrests in this deadly shooting.
Grief counselors are available to students Tuesday and Wednesday at Franklin County High School from 8 am to 4:30 pm. No appointment is necessary.
