FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Police have stepped up patrols in a Frankfort neighborhood where five homes have been broken into over the last two weeks.

The homes are in the areas of Centennial Avenue and Beechwood Avenue.

WKYT’s Jordan Vilines went to the neighborhood to see how folks there are dealing with these burglaries.

Lori Bishop has lived in the Beechwood Crestwood subdivision for nearly two decades, “I’ve lived here 18 years and never felt unsafe,” she said.

But Bishop says she actually has started to feel slightly unsafe in the past few weeks.

Since October first, there have been five break-ins within a half mile radius.

“There is an individual who is breaking into homes during all hours of the evening and stealing televisions,” said Captain Robert Warfel with the Frankfort Police Department.

Frankfort Police believe that the thieves are using Landings Drive as a cut through to get to and from the neighborhood where the burglaries are happening.

Police also believe that the thieves are operating on foot.

Bishop says she's seen the increase in suspicious activity first hand, “We get so many people that come to the door,” prompting her to put up a "no solicitations" sign on her door to keep unknown people off her front porch.

“People are more aware now. They make sure their doors are locked and they are taking extra precautions that need to be taken.”

But she's not the only one who is taking precautions.

Police are now stepping up security measures by having officers patrol the area on foot, on bicycles and in marked cars.

“It does feel good to know that police are patrolling the area much more and that makes me feel safer.”

Now, she hopes the extra security measures will stick until police catch the culprit.

Police have a good idea of who the suspect is.
