Police investigate string of break-ins in Frankfort

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) - Several members of a Frankfort neighborhood gathered for a neighborhood watch meeting last night. Apparently, they weren't the only ones with crime on the brain.

"I'm sitting watching television and the cat's playing with something that sounds very strange. I looked to see what it was and I noticed it's a lock facing. So then I looked at my front door and I thought, 'Oh dear....we have a problem,'," said Jean Davis Shaw.

The problem? Someone tried to force their way into her house last night.

"As I opened the door, I realized there was a police car sitting out front. Well, I thought this isn't just coincidence," she said.

It wasn't a coincidence at all. In fact, police say someone broke into three houses in a half-mile radius last night. The break-ins happened sometime between 6:00 and 10:00 while several neighbors were at a neighborhood watch meeting.

"That was a little ironic, I have to admit, particularly its subject matter," said Davis.

Last night's break-ins were just the latest in that area. Police say there have been five in the neighborhood since October first in the areas of Centennial Avenue and Beechwood Ave. In a few cases, the thief has taken televisions. Jean Shaw says she'll be keeping an eye out. She wishes things had played out just a bit differently last night.

"I doubt that they would have done it...but...there you have it," she said.

Frankfort Police say they have a good idea of who their suspect is. Police plan to increase their patrols of the area.
