A Franklin County family is hoping people will come out and support a fund honoring their daughter who was killed by a distracted driver.
17-year old Trista Shoemaker's family is holding an event this weekend in Frankfort to raise funds for an annual scholarship.
Shoemaker's car was hit by an SUV that ran a red light in Frankfort back in 2011. That driver later admitted to texting at the time and pleaded guilty to reckless homicide.
The 1st Annual Benefit Run for the Trista Shoemaker Scholarship Fund will be held Saturday at Derby Cycle in Frankfort, Ky. The event runs from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM.
The scholarship will go to a Western Hills High School senior.
