FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Franklin County officials are searching for man they say slipped into Elkhorn Creek, near the dam.
Franklin County Sheriff, Pat Melton, tells us it was just past 7:00 p.m. Sunday when two men were fishing along the banks of the Elkhorn Creek. They say one of them was walking along the water's edge when he slipped and fell in.
Melton says the other man immediately ran to a neighboring house to call 911. Sheriffs deputies, fire officials, and fish and wildlife officials have been on scene ever since. They walked the banks for about a mile downstream, looking for any sign of the man, but so far there aren't any.
With all the rain in the past few days, the water is about six feet higher than normal, and far too dangerous to send any search teams into it right now. They say they hope by Monday morning they'll be able to do a more extensive search.
The sheriff said his deputies would be back out searching at 8 a.m.
Officials have not released the man's identity
