Eastbound Interstate 64 in Franklin County has reopened following a tractor trailer fire Tuesday morning.
It happened near exit 58 around 7:30 this morning. Franklin County sheriff's deputies say the driver was hauling hay when a tire on the trailer blew. The driver pulled over and within minutes the blown tire had caught fire, and that fire spread to the hay.
Firefighters closed the road while they went through the hay, making sure the fire was out.
"Had to pull hay off the trailer to extinguish the hotspots inside of the load where the fire had extended inside of the hay," said Battalion Chief Kevin Parrish of the Franklin County Fire Department.
Once the fire was out the burnt hay had to be collected and the other hay bales had to be moved to a new trailer. The fire damaged the first trailer so much it couldn't be used.
Traffic was backed up at least five miles during the cleanup but the road was cleared around 11:30 a.m.
