FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - It's been more than 39 years since Kentucky State Police Trooper Glen Franklin was shot while trying to make an undercover bootleg buy in Franklin County, but the agency hasn't forgotten and is giving him an award.

Franklin on Monday will be presented with the Guthrie Crowe Award, an honor named for the first state police commissioner and given to officers wounded or injured in the line of duty.

On hand for the presentation will be Gov. Steve Beshear, Justice and Public Safety Secretary J. Michael Brown and state police Commissioner Rodney Brewer.

Franklin became a trooper in 1972 and nine months later was shot. The injury resulted in permanent paralysis to Franklin's lower extremities, and he is confined to a motorized wheelchair.
