FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -
WKYT was the only TV station there at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office when deputies arrested two people for trafficking heroin in the county.
Franklin County Sheriff, Pat Melton says an investigation lead to the arrests of 35-year-old, Robert Washington and 35-year-old, Heather Hughes.
"There has been a quantity of heroin recovered," says Melton.
Sheriff Melton says while the prescription pill problem has gone down, heroin use is on the rise, "It's also a little cheaper than the pills. Heroin is making a huge come back and it's a scary come back for us because it's a big officer safety issue. It's a social issue with the needles and intravenous use," Melton says.
Melton says these two arrests won't eliminate the heroin problem in his county but that it's a step in the right direction, "All I can tell you is if you're dealing heroin in Franklin County, Kentucky you probably need to go somewhere else."
Hughes faces several drug charges in Franklin County and in Anderson County. She is also a fugitive out of Ohio, where she faces drug trafficking charges there.
