A Scott County teacher, facing dozens of sex charges, appeared in court Tuesday morning.

Jason Carpenter was arrested last month on charges of sexual abuse and inappropriate contact with a girl under the age of 18.

Carpenter's preliminary hearing Tuesday took just minutes. His attorney waived the hearing, and the case was sent on to the Scott County Grand Jury.

Police say Carpenter, 38, had sex with the alleged victim 36 times, beginning in 2009, when the girl was 16 years old.

As Carpenter left the Scott County Courthouse Tuesday, he and his attorney declined to comment.

Carpenter's parents posted his $100,000 cash bond just days after his arrest.

Carpenter taught at Scott County Middle School. He has been with the Scott County School District for 16 years.

He's currently suspended without pay, as the district continues its investigation.
