Horse rescued after getting trapped on bridge

A horse had to be rescued in Scott County Friday morning after his legs got trapped on a wooden bridge.

The horse, named Mac, was being walked by his owner on White Oak Road, when firefighters say his rear legs fell through the slats of the bridge.

Scott County firefighters called in veterinarians, who sedated the horse to keep him calm.

Firefighters then brought in a front end loader to lift Mac off the bridge.

In all, the horse was trapped for about nearly an hour.

Veterinarians then went to work treating his wounds. They say Mac had some lacerations to his legs.

Mac was eventually able to stand up on his own, which veterinarians called a good sign. He was taken to Hagyard Equine Hospital for more treatment.

Mac's owner suffered a minor injury when the horse first fell. However, she did not have to be treated for the injury.
