Georgetown Police have charged a woman with assault after police say she stabbed her roommate during an argument over $12.
Georgetown police were called to the Indian Trace apartments last night after receiving a call about a stabbing.
"One of them accused the other one of stealing some money. It escalated, got physical and then a knife was introduced," says Lt. Robert Swanigan, with Georgetown police.
When they arrived at the complex on Hiawatha Trail, they found nineteen-year-old, Kya McIntosh bleeding from the abdomen. Police say a 3 to 4 inch kitchen knife was used.
According to police, the dispute between the roommates was over $12-dollars,"This could have life impacting injuries for this victim, so it's over a small amount of money like that is just senseless, just completely senseless," adds Swanigan.
Nineteen-year-old, Kayla Vinson was arrested at the scene and is now facing charges of assault in the second degree.
Friends say that McIntosh and Vinson were roommates for over a year and can't believe an argument between the two could get this out of hand.,"I just think it was stupid, there was a better way they could have solved the problem," says Sapphire Beaucham.
Rachel Wilson moved into the Indian Trace apartments just a couple of months ago and says it's uncomfortable knowing something like this happened just a few doors away,"It makes me nervous. I'm here by myself a lot, but I guess I am just going to make sure that my doors are locked."
It's incidents, like last nights stabbing that make some other residents wanting to look for other places to call home.
McIntosh is listed in fair condition at UK hospital.
Vinson is now being held at the Scott County Detention Center.
She declined to speak with us from jail.
