A woman says she lost everything when her home went up in flames early Wednesday.
Wanda Cunigan had just gotten off work at a V.A. Hospital in Lexington, when she discovered the fire.
Firefighters say the home on Hess Branch Road in Stamping Ground, in Scott County, had almost burned to the ground when they arrived.
Cunigan, who lived alone in the home, lost a 12-week-old puppy in the fire. Two other dogs, who were outside, survived.
Since her home was in a rural area, no neighbors were around to call the fire department. Cunigan had to make the call herself when she got home at 1 a.m.
When firefighters arrived 15 minutes later, they say the house was already collapsing because of the fire.
Cunigan says she doesn't have insurance. She doesn't know what she'll do now that she's lost her home.
Firefighters say the Red Cross found a hotel to give her a free room for the night. They're also looking into providing more assistance for her, as she tries to get back on her feet.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
