Police are still searching for an inmate who escaped from the Scott County Detention Center early Sunday morning. Nathan Pierce was working outside with other inmates at the jail when officials say he ran off when no one was looking. We're told Pierce should be considered dangerous.
He's been behind bars on robbery, kidnapping and drug charges. Police say in December of last year Pierce crawled into the back of seat of a woman’s car at a Georgetown gas station, waited for her to return and then pulled a gun on her demanding cash once she started to drive away.
People who live near the jail say it’s likely Pierce is far from the facility, but they still have concerns now that a criminal is on the loose. Harold Bussell, who works just yards from the jail, says he was concerned at first but thinks pierce is probably not close by anymore. "He’s not around here. I mean, if you’re going to escape, somebody like him, wanted for what he’s wanted for, he gonna go far away as he can."
Police say Pierce does not have the beard anymore that he had in his mug shots. Jail officials say Pierce was not restrained in any way at the time he escaped.
