Driver killed in violent crash with semi identified

The Fayette County coroner has identified the man killed after his car collided with a semi late Tuesday night.

The coroner says the victim is 61-year-old Michael D. Jones, of Georgetown.

Investigators say Jones, who was driving a Suzuki Forenza, rear ended a semi on Georgetown Road at Iron Works Pike just after 11:30 p.m.

Seconds before that crash, a witness called 911, saying the driver of the Suzuki was driving recklessly and had crashed into a pole near the Sunset Motel.

The car then ran under the semi, killing Jones.

Police are awaiting toxicology reports to determine whether alcohol was a factor.

According to police, Jones wasn't wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the semi wasn't hurt.
