Family could face charges for leaving 12 chickens in hot car

Updated: Wed 10:16 PM, Jul 20, 2011

On Wednesday afternoon, investigators say a family went shopping at the Georgetown Walmart, but left many chickens inside a hot car.

Animal Control Officers say a family left 12 chickens inside their Dodge Neon, and just barely cracked the windows of the car. Officers say the family stayed in Walmart for 30 minutes, and one chicken died after being in the hot car. They took the remaining 11 to the animal shelter to nurse them back to health.

We're told the family spoke Spanish and had North Carolina liscense plates.

Georgetown Police will not file charges. They say they are leaving that up to Animal Control Officers.
