Tierra Lewis first met Trisha Sadler when they were teenagers.
"She was new to the neighborhood. We tried out for the cheerleading team together. We've known each other since," said Tierra Lewis.
On Friday Sadler was found stabbed to death and dismembered inside of her home in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Sadler went to Scott County High School before moving to Pennsylvania. She came back to Kentucky to attend The University of Kentucky.
Lewis talked to her on the phone just a few weeks ago.
"I didn't feel like she was scared or anything, so I was kind of shocked when I heard what happened," Lewis said.
Last week when Sadler didn't show up for work a co-worker called police. Police say when they arrived at Sadler's house, her boyfriend attacked them. After a standoff, police arrested 45 year-old William Ward and charged him with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, resisting law enforcement and reckless endangerment. Once they went inside the home, they found Sadler's body inside of garbage bags.
According to the arrest affidavit, Sadler had told her co-workers that Ward had threatened to kill her. Knowing that her friend was asking for help makes this news even harder for Lewis to take.
"You definitely need to tell someone. No one else should have to go through this."
William Ward is currently in jail with no bail. His first court hearing is scheduled for Friday.
