The Amen House in Georgetown helps people with needs, like groceries and paying their bills, but this time of year they have a very specific need to fill.
Amen House volunteers work to fill their regular grocery orders. They rely on donations from the community to stock their shelves.
This week they're also working to finish their Thanksgiving project. 168 families will receive a basket full of the Thanksgiving essentials, along with a gift card for a turkey or ham. But, the growing success of this project is pulling money and supplies from their daily operations.
In the past, families had to be turned away from the program but for the past three years every family who has applied has received a basket. For that, these workers are thankful.
The Amen House will begin handing out the Thanksgiving baskets on Monday. It is located on Main Street in Georgetown, and workers there are still accepting donations.
