The Family Dollar In Washington Square is usually quiet overnight, but Saturday a man clad in all black wearing pantyhose over his head made quick money by breaking in and beating the safe with an axe or splitting maul.

"He walks right in to where the safe is," explained Lt. Robert Swanigan of the Georgetown Police Department. "We're defiantly sure this guy knew where he was going and cased the business prior to the burglary."

The man on tape appears to be tall and police say he's strong. He is seen on tape moving a coke machine in front of the door with little effort as well as the counter in order to take the axe to the safe.

"He knew he could brut force his way into it and that was the quickest way to get into it," Swanigan said. "And he was in and out in a minute and twenty seconds.... That's lightning fast."

Officers have increased patrols in the area, but need help finding the man responsible.

"It's a pretty popular shopping center, hopefully, somebody saw something," Swanigan said.

Because of the unique weapon and pantyhose over his face, Georgetown investigators feel confident the man would be easily recognizable if he committed other crimes in similar ways in the area. They say they're planning to contact other police departments to see if this suspect has struck in any other areas.
