A Kentucky middle school teacher is now facing dozens of sex charges.
Georgetown Police took 38-year old Jason Carpenter into custody just before five on Wednesday. Only 27 NEWSFIRST was there as Carpenter was jailed.
Jason Carpenter is charged with 23 counts of possessing matter portraying the sexual performance of a minor, and 23 counts of promoting sexual performance of a minor under the age of 18. Police say these charges stem from incidents between November 2010 and January 2011. Georgetown Police worked with the FBI for more than a month to make the arrest.
We are told Carpenter was a teacher at Scott County Middle School, and the golf coach for the Scott County girls' high school golf team at one time. School officials tell us they will not comment on personnel issues and won't confirm if he is still employed with them.
"I can't confirm or deny what his employment is at this time. It is our understanding that he either works for, or worked for, Scott County schools in some sort of capacity," said Lt. Robert Swanigan with the Georgetown Police Department.
We are told Scott County School leaders are conducting their own investigation into this matter. No one we contacted will confirm if the alleged victim was one of Carpenter's students.
Detectives are still investigating and say more charges could follow.
