SCOTT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A woman is charged with attempted murder after Scott County deputies say she shot her stepfather in his front yard.
"I saw the gun and I called the cops. I was afraid," said Lisa Wagner.
She says she watched in shock as the street outside her home turned into a crime scene Thursday morning.
"I'm not used to seeing anything like that, maybe on TV but I wouldn't ever imagine it happening in real life," she said.
Wagner says when she woke up about 7 a.m. Thursday, she heard a woman arguing with her 63-year-old neighbor outside his home on Gemini Trail.
"I looked out my window and that's when I noticed that the girl had a gun, that's when I called the cops," she remembered.
Deputies believe 38-year-old Carolyn Storlie was trying to kill her stepfather. We’re told she shot at him twice, hitting him in the leg.
"I walked over to my neighbor's house to check on him and he said you need to leave. You can't be here because if she comes back she's going to shoot you. I was pretty scared at that point," Wagner said.
Investigators found Storlie in Winchester and arrested her.
The sheriff says he doesn't believe there has been a shooting in the quiet neighborhood before, so many people are anxious to hear why it happened. However, deputies say they still don't know why the trigger was pulled.
"I don't see what could have been so bad where someone had to shoot someone," said Wagner.
The victim is being treated at UK Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Storlie declined our request for a jail interview. Her husband also says he doesn't want to talk at this time.
