The automaker announced Tuesday morning it will increase its yearly production beginning summer 2013, creating dozens of new jobs.

Toyota executives, joined by Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear, announced that more than 80 news jobs will be coming to the plant--all thanks to an increase in the production of engines.

"Every time I'm here, we seem to be making another good announcement," Gov. Beshear said to a room full of Toyota employees and community leaders "Toyota is increasing the production of 4 cylinder engines."

The engines are for Camrys and Camry hybrids built in Kentucky and for Rav-4s built in Canada. Engine assembly capacity will increase by more than 100,000 a year at the Georgetown plant.

It's all part of a multi-million dollar project, and one by-product is more jobs.

"In making that $32 million investment, we're going to create 86 new jobs right here at this plant in Georgetown," Gov. Beshear says.

Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, president Wil James says those jobs will range in scope.

James says potential applicants can begin looking for the job openings next spring.

The 86 jobs Toyota will add next year will increase their employment to nearly 7,000 in Kentucky.

Today's announcement is the latest in a string of production increase announcements since February including Toyota plants in Indiana, West Virginia and Canada. The cumulative investment is approximately $565 million and nearly 1,000 jobs are being added.

"This engine production increase, and the several announcements before it, reflect our growing optimism for an improving North American market," said Steve St. Angelo, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc.

This investment will increase engine production at the Kentucky plant to more than 500,000 annually, and will increase total engine production in the US to more than 1.2 million per year. Toyota also has engine plants in Alabama and West Virginia.
