LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 19, 2012) — Michael Speaks, dean of the University of Kentucky College of Design, was recently recognized by OnlineColleges.com as one of the top 10 design professors to follow on Twitter.

Writer Jill Tyndale of OnlineColleges.com touts Twitter as an excellent resource for those wanting to stay in tune with the design world in the article "10 Design Professors That Will Draw You In on Twitter." The website considers the professors highlighted on their top 10 list leaders in the field who regularly provide great content on various perspectives in the "design world and the state of design education."

OnlineColleges.com recognized Speaks' Twitter account, @mspeaks, as a good source of information on news in the fields of design and education. In addition, the website liked how "Speaks keeps up with former students and posts about new or interesting designs, workshops and conferences."

An influential writer and critic, Dean Speaks has published and lectured internationally on art, architecture, urban design and scenario planning. He has been at the center of debates about the role innovation and prototyping plays in design and has written a number of influential essays that argue for the importance of what he calls "design intelligence," or the various forms of design knowledge generated during design but which are often overlooked in favor of "the design."

Before taking the dean's position and architecture professorship at UK College of Design, Speaks served as former director of the graduate program and founding director of the Metropolitan Research and Design Postgraduate Program at the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles. He was also the founding editor of the cultural journal Polygraph and a former editor at Architecture New York and a+u (Tokyo). Speaks currently serves as a contributing editor for Architectural Record.

The website OnlineColleges.com is a resource for individuals looking at online college opportunities.

Recently, OnlineColleges.com also recognized UK's social media outlets. The university was featured on "The Top Social Media Savvy Universities" list of the top 50 higher education institutions employing social media.
