The fifth annual 100 Man March Against Domestic Violence was today in Harlan.
The Harlan County Domestic Violence Council sponsored the event in light of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Members said a pledge to never commit or condone domestic violence and then walked through Harlan displaying the message.
Men were encouraged to participate in order to change perspective on what being a strong man is.
"What we wanted to do today is to challenge that notion that men equate this strength with brutality and with control and to make the social norm be more accepted to equate that strength with gentleness," said Sheryl Caudel, the organizer of the march.
Officials with the Harlan County Domestic Violence Council say 95% of all domestic violence is against women.
