The only homeless shelter in Harlan County closed its doors.

My Brother's House Homeless Shelter, based in the Christ's Hands building in Harlan, closed.

Officials say the closing is temporary, but they have no idea when the shelter will reopen.

Tina Cupp says she is homeless because of a domestic violence situation.

She is trying to get back on her feet with her two kids, but now she is not sure where to turn.

"I don't know where we are going to go. They said they could probably come up with something... I'm praying that they do," said Cupp.

"It's a very frustrating time for all of us involved. Nobody wanted this to happen," said Annie Fox with Harlan Countians for a Healthy Community.

Officials say they just don't have the dollars needed to operate a shelter anymore.

Sara Freeman says she used to live at the shelter and now she helps out.

While she agrees money is tight, she also accuses officials of mismanagement.

"All the money we funded was supposed to go to the shelter at the time...and it has not gotten to the shelter at all... I'm feeling so sorry for these people that have no place to go," said Freeman.

Officials say they cannot comment on any accusations at this time.

Officials say they are working with the Community Action Agency in Harlan to give the homeless a place to stay.

It's only the homeless shelter in the Christ's Hands building that is closed.

The soup kitchen, food pantry and other services remain in operation.
