WALLINS, Ky. (WYMT) - A tough economy has made the holidays hard for local charities.
Officials with the Salvation Army said some communities in Eastern Kentucky were struggling.
Areas like Pike and Floyd Counties have lower numbers of donations.
Officials said this year's number of recipients is the largest they've ever seen; as well as the highest number of first time recipients.
Meanwhile, Mike Howard, who is also known as the Harlan Santa, said he has seen a slight drop in this year’s donations.
“Might be a little bit, but by the time Christmas comes it should be filled up. I've got people coming from Louisville North Carolina and different places,” said Howard.
If you would like to donate, call Mike’s work shop at 606-664-2458.
