A house and church were set on fire Friday. Harlan County firefighters and detectives know it's arson, now they're trying to figure out who started the fires.
"They're either crazy or full of the devil," remarked Yocum Creek Fire Chief Roice Wynn, who manned one of four departments that worked to put out the flames at the church. Crews spent close to five hours saving the structure.
"We had some tables. Plastic tables and stuff stored in the bottom and that's where the fire originated from. So a lot of plastic burning and things like that so it took awhile to get it contained."
Chief Wynn believes someone set the fire on purpose, "there was some people working in here last night and this guy tried to get in and they wouldn't let him in and so I would say he just got mad at them and people do crazy things."
"We have witnesses that has witnessed someone running from the church. Just literally minutes before it was on fire," said Harlan County Sheriff Marvin Lipfird, who is now investigating," this is extremely serious this is just senseless and there's absolutely no need in this. This is a historic church in this community and for someone to do something like this it's just absolutely ridiculous."
