The search continues for suspects who allegedly fired shots in a Harlan County neighborhood.
The shooting happened early Sunday morning in Lynch. No one was reportedly injured, but police are still looking for a reason for the shooting.
Officers say incidents like this are pretty unusual in the small, quiet Harlan County town.
Lynch Police Chief Michael Nunley says people living near the intersection of Trailer Park Road and Liberty Street woke up to the sound of gunshots on Sunday morning.
"A lot of people were concerned," said Nunley.
"It was a little bit of utter chaos," said Officer Michael Wilson.
Once the scene was cleared and neighbors calmed, the investigation began.
Nunley says police found four bullet casings from a high-powered rifle on the street.
"We were also able to recover two shells that were found inside the house that was struck behind me," said Nunley.
But he says the house was not likely a target.
"We have reports that lead us to believe they might have been firing at somebody," said Nunley.
He says it looks like the person suspects were shooting at escaped through bushes, which is why the stray bullets hit the home.
With so many houses close by to where the shooting happened, Chief Nunley says it's fortunate no one was hurt.
"In a small area like this, the potential for someone to be harmed is extremely high and dangerous," said Nunley.
Police believe the suspects left Lynch and headed toward Cumberland after the shooting, but they have not been seen since.
Police say the suspects were driving a black car, which witnesses told them looked like an old police cruiser, and it may have had a spotlight.
