RICHMOND, Ky. (WYMT) - The funeral of a long time Eastern Kentucky football coach was held Monday in Madison County.
Ed Miracle is best known for his success as football coach at Lynch High School.
Just a few of his wins include 13 Class A district championships and four state titles.
Each former athlete under Coach Miracle will tell you the same thing.
“He was just a great guy knew how to motivate you knew how to get out of you what you had,” said former player, Joe Washington.
Another former player, Mike O'Bradovich said, “I knew him as a teacher, I knew him as a friend, got a lot of fond memories of coach.”
Many gathered at his funeral in Richmond to share stories like Washington’s recount of a state championship.
“As we were out on the field, we looked and the players from Frankfort were coming from what looked like for miles.” said Washington.
Everyone also shared some laughs and a few tears.
“He affected so many lives and put so much emotion into what he did I guess we're just giving emotion back to him for what he did do,” said Mike O'Bradovich.
Family members say they have been overwhelmed by the community's response to his death
“Words can’t express our gratitude for the outpouring of love that we've received,” said Miracle’s daughter, Michele Miracle-Feld.
All for a man many athletes called a father figure, friend, and mentor.
Miracle died Thursday and was 83 years old.
