EVARTS, Ky. (WYMT) - Some family members of former Evarts Mayor Ronny King say they are relieved police made an arrest in the murder case.
Monday, state police arrested Shelby Shell, 29, in Berea.
Tuesday, King's family told us they want justice for him.
Ronny King's nephews Eddie Johnson and Jesse Farley say King was more like a brother to them.
"He was a great person, a hard working person, a caring person and a dedicated person," said Jesse Farley.
Police say someone shot King and set his home on fire last week in Evarts. Johnson and Farley say they are still in shock.
"Very tough. I haven't been able to sleep since it happened, maybe a few hours. Still can't believe someone could do that," said Farley.
Monday, police arrested Evarts native Shelby Shell at his home in Berea and charged him with murder. Detectives say Shell is responsible for King's death.
"It's a peace knowing some justice has been done," said Eddie Johnson.
Johnson and Farley say they barely know Shell.
The two nephews say the arrest still does not ease the pain of losing King.
"We love him dearly, and we miss him. He was a good light to us. He was a hard worker, worked ever since he was young," said Johnson.
"He was the rock of the family," said Farley.
They say he can never be replaced.
Shell pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder, robbery, burglary, arson and tampering with evidence charges. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 4th.
