Harlan 4-H Environmental Camp

Posted: Thu 5:28 PM, Sep 13, 2012

Some Harlan County fourth graders got to take a break from their usual studies to learn about mother nature.

More than 100 students were part of the 4-H Environmental Camp today at Martin's Fork Lake.

Students learned about Kentucky fish and wildlife, water conservation, and forest ecology from forest rangers.

Organizers say they want the children to learn about the importance of protecting the environment.

"What we want to instill in them is to learn to be conservative with what we have, not waste it, and to take care of our environment," said 4-H sponsor Raymond Cox.

Teachers say the environmental camp is a great teaching tool that gives students hands-on experiences they could not have in the classroom.
