BAXTER, Ky. (WYMT) - A Harlan County elementary school principal is facing charges after being arrested on charges of driving under the influence.
Dispatchers tell Mountain News troopers pulled 48 year old Edwin Stewart over Thursday afternoon around 2:30 near the Baxter post office.
Jail records show Stewart was arrested and charged with DUI, littering, drinking in a public place and possession of an open container in a vehicle.
Kentucky State Police trooper Jason Young arrested Stewart and said he had multiple beer cans in his car when he was pulled over.
"Where he alleged he bought the beer and where I stopped him was less than a half mile and I already found two open alcoholic containers in the vehicle," said Young.
Stewart, who is the principal at Black Mountain Elementary School, was released on a $7,500 bond Thursday afternoon.
Officials with Harlan County Schools were unavailable for comment.
