Law enforcement officials and first responders in Harlan County say they are struggling to connect over the radio.
Officials say there are gaps in the county's E-911 radio system, and Emergency Management officials say they are waiting on federal funding to purchase a new radio tower to solve the problem.
The tower will be placed on Big Black Mountain in Lynch.
Officials say it would extend the radio and cell service range in the county, which is often a problem.
“It's a problem area for the Lynch Police definitely, the Sheriff's office and also Lynch Fire Department, and then like I said Holmes’ Mill has some dead areas as well,” David McGill, Emergency Management Director.
McGill expects the radio tower to be up by the end of next year.
