CORBIN/HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) - There was a large show of support on Tuesday for an Air Force Airman killed in an accident overseas.
Services for Sergeant Ryan Austin were held in Corbin.
The 25-year-old was electrocuted while serving in Europe.
A group had said it would send people to protest his service, but others who wanted to honor him showed up instead including some who didn't even know him yet drove hours for the service.
After the funeral service in Corbin, Sergeant Austin was buried in a cemetery in Harlan County.
The processional from Corbin went to Harlan County. Dozens of people lined the streets in Harlan to honor the fallen airman.
People set up memorials and waved flags while the processional passed by.
"Anytime a fallen American hero comes victim, we just just come out and pay our support as a community. It was just great being part of a community coming together as one to honor a fallen hero," said Tyler Prewitt.
Harlan County police and firefighters escorted the processional all the way to the cemetery.
