Hate Crime Trial to resume on Monday

Updated: Fri 4:28 PM, Oct 19, 2012

LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) - A Harlan County hate crime trial was in recess on Friday. The federal trial is being held in London.

Court officials say on Thursday, defense attorney's cross-examined Alexis Jenkins, who has pleaded guilty in the case in exchange for her testimony.

The two men on trial, cousins Anthony and Jason Jenkins, are accused of beating a Harlan County man because he is gay.

Alexis Jenkins, who is married to Anthony Jenkins, testified they planned to kill Kevin Pennington in Kingdom Come State Park and dump his body. Pennington escaped.

Defense attorneys argue the attack was over drugs, not sexual orientation.

The trial resumes on Monday.
