HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) - Hundreds of coal miners attended a job fair in Harlan County on Thursday.
Hiring Our Miners Everyday (H.O.M.E.), the Kentucky Coal Association (KCA), EKCEP, and the Harlan Community Action Agency helped host the job fair in the Harlan Center.
It was for Patriot coal. The company has underground mine jobs available at the Highland Mine in Western Kentucky.
Officials say they came to Harlan to look for workers because so many miners were laid off earlier this year in Harlan County.
"We're just doing something trying to get them some employment. We'd rather keep them here at home, but the way the economy is, sometimes they're going to have to move so we're doing what we can to help them out," said Chris Thompson with the Harlan Community Action Agency
The job fair ended at 5:00.
