It's a lawsuit that threatens to split the courthouse! The Harlan County Sheriff's Chaplain Corps along with the sheriff and ten of its members are suing Judge-Executive Joe Grieshop.

The lawsuit alleges the county judge made comments to damage the reputation of the organization.

It's a matter that could make its way into a Harlan County courtroom and possibly cost the county at the same time.

"The county would also be subject to damages," said Robert Melvin, attorney for the plaintiffs.

Melvin represents the Chaplain Corps and a host of its members. They are suing the county judge.

"They wish to have their reputations and the reputations of the Chaplain Corps vindicated," said Melvin.

Melvin said comments made to the public by County Judge-Executive Joe Grieshop have cast a black eye on the charitable organization.

"That the Chaplain Corps and by implication its members are under investigation," said Melvin.

You may remember months ago, the judge sent an eviction notice to the Chaplain Corps telling them to get out of a county-owned building.

After that, a fiscal court meeting got heated when Chaplain Corps supporters showed up.

Grieshop is named personally in the suit and in his role as a county official.

County Judge-Executive Joe Grieshop would not speak on the record about this Thursday. He said he had no comment at this time.
