A Harlan County coal mine is ordered to pay a hefty fine after a deadly accident last year.
The Federal Mine Safety and Health Administration says operators at Manalapan Mining Company Incorporated's P-1 Mine near Smith failed to support the sides of rock pillars inside the mine...including where the accident happened that killed 49-year-old David Partin back in June, 2011.
Investigators issued five citations which penalized them more than half a million dollars.
The company is contesting the fines.
