A mudslide in Harlan County damages a church Monday afternoon.

Mud rushed to the bottom of Closplint Church of God and across Kentucky 38.

Pastor Frank Howard never expected that after leaving his church Monday afternoon, he would get called back to a mud filled parking lot.

"There has always been a little bit of water come out of here, but there's a ditch on the back side of the railroad, but I ain't never seen nothing like this," Howard said.

The mud started creeping up the wheelchair ramp, but never made it inside.

One of the pastors main concerns are the heat pumps. They're now filled with mud, and they won't have air conditioning until they're either replaced or repaired.

"I was wanting to have church tomorrow night, but so with the help of the Lord we'll do something," Howard said.

A local coal company is helping the church out by removing the mud.

"We're gonna get it cleaned back up and with the help of the Lord. He'll take care of us. We'll get back up on our feet and keep on going," Howard said.

Howard is just thankful no one was hurt.

Officials say there were no other reports of damage in the area.
