HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) - New runway lights are on the way at the Harlan County Airport.
Airport Board Chairman Mark Miracle says the FAA is helping to fund the project.
He says the board has accepted bids. The engineers are reviewing them, and they plan to award one soon to begin construction.
Miracle says the new runway lights will help pilots during fog or other bad conditions.
"You don't want to get too close to the mountains, and you fly over looking for the runway and it's foggy and you're trying to find it, so the lights will help," Miracle said.
He says construction should start in a few weeks. It will take about forty-five days to install the new lights.
