HARLAN, Ky. (WYMT) - Officials with a Harlan County coal company and two supervisors will plead guilty to charges of willfully violating federal mine-safety laws.
The Herald-Leader reports that a federal grand jury charged the Manalapan Mining Company and three employees for violating safety rules last year.
Charges included that miners were told to use inadequate equipment and work in areas of the mine where the roof was not properly supported.
The alleged illegal acts happened weeks before an employee at the mine was killed when a large section of the mine wall fell on him.
