LOYALL, Ky. (WYMT) - City officials in one Harlan County town say someone keeps shooting out the lights in the in the city park. Loyall city leaders say every time they get them fixed, someone shoots them out again.
"It makes it rough," said Loyall Police Chief Michael Lunsford.
Loyall Police say city officials had the lights repaired in January and they are already shot out again.
There is no known motive.
"We don't have the slightest idea unless it's teenagers with a BB gun," said Lunsford.
Police say no lights creates safety issues in the dark. They are now clearing the park each night.
"Here especially it's a nuisance because now you have to run people off to keep them out of the park after dark and stuff like that," said Mark Duff.
"Because it hurts the families and the kids and you can't see to get around and to maneuver in the park, especially this end where it's a little darker up here," said Lunsford.
Until they do find out who is responsible, Lunsford says city officials do not plan to repair the lights right now.
"We're trying to find out who did it because we're afraid it will just get shot back out if we repair them," said Lunsford.
Police are asking the community for tips to catch whoever is doing this. All tips can remain anonymous.
