HARLAN, Ky (WYMT) - A woman is in jail charged with DUI after allegedly running someone over in the Walmart parking lot in Harlan.
Police believe Diane Lewis may have been intoxicated when she injured a woman on a motorized shopping cart by backing into her.
It was a busy day at the Harlan Walmart on Friday when a woman was injured after Diane Lewis allegedly ran into her with her truck.
"She was backing up. There is a road beside the Walmart where other people park. A truck had come up beside her. I guess she assumed the truck was going to go on," said Corporal Jeff Owens with the Harlan Police Department.
Police say the other truck was actually waving the victim, Mary Rigney who was on a motorized shopping cart, on across the road.
But police say Lewis did not stop, she kept backing up hitting the cart Rigney was in.
"She did have some broken bones, and they felt it was necessary to fly her to Holston Valley," said Owens.
Police say Lewis was also parked in a fire lane at the Walmart.
Police say based on field sobriety tests, and the fact that Lewis told police there could possibly marijuana in her system, Lewis was arrested and charged with reckless driving and driving under the influence.
This is not the first time Lewis has been in trouble with the law.
You may remember back in August, Lewis was arrested after police say she went on a rampage through the Loyall Kwik Mart and threw pickled pigs feet through the window.
"You take mamma bear and mess with a cub, she is going to bite your head off," Lewis told us about the incident back in August.
She declined our request for an interview about the most recent incident.
Police say Lewis was very worried about Rigney after the accident.
Police also say a juvenile was on the motorized scooter, but she hopped off before the truck hit them.
